REPORT ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE KOGI WEST ZONAL ELECTORAL COMMITTEE ON KOGI, YAGBA EAST, MOPAAMURO, KABBA/BUNU AND IJUMU LGA

REPORT ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE KOGI WEST ZONAL ELECTORAL COMMITTEE ON KOGI, YAGBA EAST, MOPAAMURO, KABBA/BUNU AND IJUMU LGA

The Activities of the Electoral Committee saddled with the responsibility of conducting a free and credible election for the above LGA in Kogi West has been wholesome and direct .

The Electoral Committee started activities by publicizing the day to day activities of the Electoral Committee for fairness and equity so as not to make the process in Kogi West an isolated one.

The guideline was carefully done via the time frame given to us by the Central Planning Committee of the duration at which all activities should be conducted .

 KOGI WEST ZONAL ELECTORAL COMMITTEE DECISIONS AND OBSERVATIONS

1. That on the day the Electoral Committee Chairman and Secretary received the entire forms for the LGA Election it was agreed that the Electoral Committee Secretary Receive all funds for payment of form and remit back to Comrade Bala Ibrahim so as for him to remit to central planning committee 

2. That we should use all options of resolution by ensuring stakeholders all agree to resolving on a candidate and in an avenue they all fail to agree we can proceed to sell forms for both parties.

3. That despite the above agreement Comrade Bala Ibrahim still went ahead to receive forms fee for Yagba East LGA to his account as against the agreement we had in the meeting where all forms were received .

4. Also because of personal interest of Comrade Bala Ibrahim who has once approached us on supporting someone from Yagba East LGA started frustrating the electoral Committee activities because we were not willing to bend the electoral Committee rules in favor of his candidate 

5. Also the Electoral Committee who happens to be an independent body met and take some decisions to overcome the frustration we are getting from Comrade Bala Ibrahim as related to Yagba East LGA Election .

6. That we have always fulfil our own part of the agreement by meeting with Comrade Bala Ibrahim to remit funds for forms purchased from various LGA 

7. That Comrade Bala Ibrahim decided to be boycotting the electoral Committee activities just to favor his personal interest in Yagba East LGA 

8. That the electoral Committee met and decided to resist frustration and intimidation from any corner .

9. That Forms in other LGA were sold out and money remitted without rancour until Comrade Bala Ibrahim brought personal interest to override the Electoral Process in Yagba East LGA 

 OBSERVATIONS AT THE ELECTORAL COMMITTEE SCREENING GROUND

1. That the Executive Chairman of Yagba East LGA stormed our Screening ground with Security personnels and hoodlums to disrupt our activities and threaten the electoral Committee that we must do the bidding of the Chairman .

2. That the Executive Chairman of Yagba East approached us to give us 1.5 million naira to compromise and disqualify a particular candidate from Yagba East LGA in person of Comrade Owoniyi Olasunkanmi Jethro who is contesting for the position of Coordinator.

3. That members of the committee were threatened by the boys who the Executive Chairman brought to the screening ground to intimidate the Electoral Committee 

4. That one of the boys that came with the Executive Chairman to that ground flashed one of my members the cutlass he kept in his body saying if Electoral Committee fuckup they will deal with us 

 OBSERVATIONS ON THE SCREENED CANDIDATE/FORM THAT LED TO THE DECISIONS TAKEN BY THE ELECTORAL COMMITTEE MEMBERS

1. That some of the aspirants screened out of the contest date of birth contradicts each other on the form and birth certificate 

2. That some of the aspirants didn't submit any documents to back up their claims at all on the form 

3. That some of the candidates do not even have nomination form to contest for the various positions they filled in their forms 

4. That a particular candidate forged the signature of the Electoral Committee Chairman and Secretary 

5. That some of the candidates were over aged

6. That some of the candidates do not have the required things needed to contest for the position they applied for .

7. That some of the candidates cannot even addressed the Electoral Committee properly not to talk of going out there to represent the council properly 

8. That in decision making petitions on rotation was received and was part of things considered in decision making because it was one of the mandate the State Management meeting gave for justice and equity in the election  

In view of the above the Electoral Committee took decisions that will be best for the Council and not tarnish the image of the council out there .

As we present this report today we will urge us all to always consider the interest of the Council first above every other interest brought forward before us .
