ONE OF THE 313 PHOTOS OF 2019 P.B.C.C.
Jello Aguaras, right, is one of the regular competitors of Palau Chess Federation’s tournaments. He is playing against the youngest among the Sisior sisters Kyarii while Remrel Dizon, 2nd from right, was able to represent Palau together with 11 other players and officials to the 2019 Oceania Zonal Chess Championship in Guam held just a month after the 2019 PBCC.
2021 Palau Blitz Chess Championship on Easter Sunday at Long Island Park
The original date of 2021 Palau Blitz Chess Championship is March 21 but because of the 2021 Oceania Zonal Hybrid Chess Championship, it was postponed for 2 weeks on Easter Sunday, April 04. Angelo Salvadora is the lone rep of Palau in that OZCC which was done online but the time control is Standard (90 min. for the first 40 moves + 30 seconds increment and another 30 minutes after 40 moves). The 8 participants don’t need to travel to host country Australia and can play in the comfort of their rooms/houses. I am one of the 20 participating arbiters. For Angelo, on 2 Saturdays and Jennifer Angeles alternated with me on 2 Sundays.
Angelo was able to win only on the first round vs. Nauru’s Thubalkain Dabuae and lost the next 6 games to a field of 2 GMs from Australia, a FIDE Master from New Zealand, a CM from Guam and Fiji and no titles from players of Solomon Islands, Nauru and Palau.
